This sappy, cheasy, saccharine, overly sentimental pop song always makes me think of basketball. My high school was too small to have a football team, so basketball was THE sport. (E.g. "Homecoming game" was basketball.) So the summer after my Freshman year, I was determined to become a basketball god. Even if I was 5'3" and under a hundred pounds. The solution, of course, was to join the YMCA and practice my guts out. But my schedule perfectly coincided with a "gentle aerobics" class on the other side of the gym, and the instructor had a deep love of Atlantic Starr. Thus the lines "girl you are to me, all that a woman should be" always makes me think of free throws, and yeah, okay, the girl I thought would be impressed when I made the team.
